The 1 oz Gold Britannia coin was first minted in 1987 by the Royal Mint with .9999 fineness. The reverse features a design by Philip Nathan displaying a feminine figure standing on a rock in the wind while holding a trident and shield bearing the British flag. The obverse is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and a 100 Pounds face declaration.
